Patchwork estilo inglés/ English paper piecing

Esta es una de las técnicas más tradicionales de patchwork y permite el uso de gran variedad de formas geométricas como hexágonos, pentágonos, octágonos y figuras derivadas de estas. Te recomendamos planear bien tu proyecto antes de cortar la tela, ya sea que busques un efecto de caleidoscopio, o realices un proyecto con diferentes figuras.

This is one of the most traditional patchworck techniques, and it allows the use of a great variety of geometric forms such as hexagons, pentagons, octagons and other figures extracted from them. We recomend you to plan ahead before cutting your fabric, if you are looking for a kaleidoscope effect as well as if you are combining different figures.

Utilizando plástico traslúcido, del que se emplea para las pastas de engargolado, traza una plantilla del tamaño exacto de la pieza que vas a trabajar. Agrega ¼” por todo el contorno y recorta por ambas líneas. A este tipo de plantilla se le conoce como “de ventana”. (Fig. 1)

Using a traslucent plastic, used for paper binding, trace a template the exact size you want your piece to be, Add a 1/4" all around it and carefully cut both lines. This type stencil looks like a window. (Fig. 1)

Con esta plantilla dibuja sobre papel el borde interno y recorta tantos papeles como te sean necesarios. Haz lo mismo con la tela pero tomando como medida el borde externo. (Fig.2)

Using this stencil, trace the inner border in a piece of paper, cut as many of this papers as patches your  project need. Do the same with the fabric, but this time trace the outer border. (Fig. 2)

Coloca la pieza de tela con el frente hacia abajo y encima uno de los papeles procurando que quede perfectamente centrado para que la costura sea uniforme en todos sus lados. (Fig. 3)

Place the fabric right side down and a paper on top, watching that it gets perfectly centered, with the same seam allowance on all the sides. (Fig. 3)

Cuidadosamente ve doblando el margen de costura hasta que tope con el borde del papel y pasa un hilván para sujetarlo. (Figs. 4 y 5)

Carefully fold the extra fabric toward the center until it gets the border of the paper and make a running stitch to hold it in place. (Figs. 4-5)

Habiendo hecho el proceso anterior con todas las piezas, colócalas frente a frente alineando el borde que comparten y únelas con pequeñas puntadas tomando solamente unos cuantos hilos de ambas. Remata cuidadosamente y abre para continuar así con el resto. (Figs. 6 y7)

Once you have done this with all your pieces, face them together aligning the side they share and sew them with tiny stitches taking only a few threads of both. Secure your stitches and continiue with the rest. (Figs. 6-7)

Una vez armadas todas las piezas plancha tu labor con mucho cuidado, retira los hilvanes, los papeles y ahora quedó lista para el acolchado.

When you have all your pieces sewn together, iron them and take out your running stitches and your papers, now it's ready to be quilted.

Hace algún tiempo nos entró la moda por los mandalas y como dicen que todas las modas vuelven, queremos aprovechar el regreso de ésta para compartirles algunos mandalas que hicimos hace tiempo. Esperemos que les gusten. Saludos.

¡Feliz día de las madres!/ Happy mother's day

Muchas felicidades a todas las mamás en su día. Les tenemos un pequeño detalle que esperemos les guste.
El patrón no incluye la numeración de los ojos porque nos pareció se verían mejor bordados, e igualmente creemos que las colitas podrían hacerse bordadas o aplicadas dependiendo del tamaño en que se decian a hacerlo, de cualquier modo quedará muy tierno.

Congratulations to all the mothers. We have a little present for you that we hope you'll like.
The pattern does not include numbers for the pieces of the eyes because we believed that they would look better embroidered, we also believe that the tails might be embroidered as well depending of the size you decide to work with, in any case it's going to look very cute.
